Disney is currently remaking some of their best-known animated classics as CGI and live-action adaptations and Aladdin is the one that is grabbing the most attention. While the other two  Disney adaptations releasing this year – Dumbo and The Lion King – will feature CGI’d animals as main characters, Aladdin’s main cast is all human, making it harder to cast actors who would closely resemble the original animated characters. Nevertheless, Disney has searched far and wide to find the perfect cast to create a more culturally sensitive film than the original.

The main cast is comprised of actors from Arabian, Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and Southern Asian descents. Aladdin is being played by Mena Massoud who is an Egyptian-Canadian actor. Before this, you may have seen him in the series Jack Ryan as Tarek Kassar. Naomi Scott, a Caucasian-Indian actress, will be portraying Jasmine. She is known for playing the Pink Ranger in the 2017 Power Rangers film and will also be seen in the remake of Charlie’s Angels later this year.
