South Indian cinema’s biggest superstar, the one and only Rajinikanth, has treated us to some big blockbusters this year with Kaala and 2.0 along with Kabaali back in 2016. But we’ve missed Thalaiva’s suave swag in these movies and director Karthik Subbaraj is ready to bring him back in all his glory in his latest film Petta.
Slated to release during Pongal on 10th January, the promising film stars Rajinikanth as Kaali – a hostel warden who has left his violent past behind. Petta also features Vijay Sethupathi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui (in his South Indian debut) as partners in crime. Sethupathi plays the role called Jithu, who seems to be Siddiqui’s henchman. The film also stars Megha Akash, Bobby Simha, Trisha, and Sasikumar.
Director Subbaraj who is a huge admirer of the superstar said, “Petta is made by fans of Rajinikanth. We put in a lot of thought in filming every single shot of Rajinikanth sir. Vijay Sethupathi is also a big Rajinikanth fan. He told me that one day I will direct Rajinikanth sir in a film. And when it happens, he will play the villain in the project. It was another dream cometrue moment to work with Nawazuddin Siddiqui sir. He is also a Rajini fan.”
The 67-year-old legend looks ultra stylish and badass in the trailer which is packed to the brim with Rajinikanth’s cool one-man show. From the looks of the brand new Petta trailer, director Subbaraj has figured out exactly what the Rajinikanth fandom has been waiting for. It has plenty of whistle-worthy moments and promises to be a complete action-packed mass entertainer! Check out the trailer now:
