8 Illustrious Biopics In 2019 For Everyone
Apart from being a medium of entertainment, movies are also a huge source of information. Time and again, films end up educating and inspiring us. The art of storytelling in the form of cinema is often appreciated and enjoyed more than other media and filmmakers never step back from telling us new stories every now and then. In the last year itself, Bollywood put in the spotlight a real superhero, Arunachalam Muruganantham, who put his relationships and life on stake for the welfare of women. Then, we were also told the story and struggles of Bollywood’s own Sanju Baba through Rajkumar Hirani‘s Sanju.
The coming year has a great line-up of biographies that will bring alive some of the most cherished stories and characters. We have listed eight of them below:
1. The Accidental Prime Minister (11th January)
One of the most awaited biopics, The Accidental Prime Minister is based on the life of economist and politician Manmohan Singh, who served as the Prime Minister of the country from 2004 to 2014.
2. Manikarnika (25th January)
The story of our very own superhero Rani Laxmibai, Manikarnika traces her life from childhood to marriage, as a mother and a warrior, mainly focussing on her war against the British East India Company during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
3. Thackeray (25th January)
Made in both Marathi and Hindi, Thackeray is based on the life of Bal Thackeray, a right-wing Marathi manoos, who founded the political party Shiv Sena. The movie is also releasing on the 25th of January, two days after Balasaheb’s 93rd birth anniversary.
4. Super 30 (January 2019)
Based on the life of the genius mathematician Anand Kumar, Super 30 is all about his eponymous education program. Starring Hrithik Roshan, this movie will compete with Manikarnika in the box office.
5. Shakeela (Summer 2019)
Playing the life of another film celebrity must be a revelation for any actor. Richa Chadda must have experienced the same while playing Shakeela, one of the most famous actors of the Malayalam film industry of the nineties, in her biopic.
6. ’83 (30 August 2019)
A movie that will unite the two biggest religions of India – Bollywood & cricket, ’83 will tell us the incredible story of India’s 1983 cricket world cup victory. Ranveer Singh will play the role of star cricketer Kapil Dev in the movie.

7. Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior (November 2019)
Ajay Devgn‘s magnum opus stars Devgn himself in the lead role. The movie is based on the life of Maharashtrian Koli military leader Tanaji Malusare who fought numerous battles alongside Maratha leader Shivaji Maharaj.
8. Mogul – The Gulshan Kumar Story (December 2019)
Pretty obvious by the name, Mogul is based on the life of Late Gulshan Kumar, the founder of the music giant T-Series and a famous film producer. The cast for the movie has faced a few ups and downs but the film still sticks to its Christmas release.
There are other movies in the pipeline that may release in 2019 viz. Salute (Rakesh Sharma biopic), the Abhinav Bindra biopic starring Harshvardhan Kapoor, a Narendra Modi biopic, a Saina Nehwal biopic starring Shraddha Kapoor, and Mithali Raj‘s untitled biopic, amongst others.
